Billy Gene Jones, 74, of Frenchburg, Kentucky passed away Wednesday morning, August 4, 2021 at his home.
He was born on January 25, 1947 in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky to the late William Hobert Jones and Dorothy McKenzie Jones.
Billy was a successful contractor, developer and businessman. Billy, along with his brother Rudy, was a founder, owner and operator of Triple J Construction, Inc. specializing in highway construction & site development. When the company was awarded a road and bridge project on KY 36 at the Bath/Menifee County line, his dream of building a golf course came true when they bought the adjoining property next to the job and built the front 9 of Carrington Greens Golf Course in Bath County. It was such an overwhelming success, they bought more property in Menifee County and built the back 9 to complete an 18 hole golf course for our community. Thousands of people have played golf at "The Rock" since and it is a tremendous part of Billy's legacy. A few years later, they developed Rudy's Ranch and Horse Camp which has been visited by trail riders & campers from all over North America. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family & friends, playing golf, fishing, going to Cave Run Lake, watching UK sports and attending high school athletic events. He was a huge supporter of the youth of our area and could always be seen standing at games enjoying watching them play. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandson, Will, teaching him the game of golf and watching him play tournaments and basketball games and never missed an event.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Rudy Michael Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Barbara Hale Jones, his son, William Jarrod Jones and daughter-in-law Kristy Jones of Morehead, his grandson, William Leslie Jones, twin sister Patty Hunt and her husband Harold Wayne and his sister Robyn McCarty and her husband Rodney all of Owingsville and his sister-in-law, Bonnie Jones. Also surviving are Teri Caudill and Scott Caudill and several nieces and nephews.
