Dewey Edward McCarty, 78 of Owingsville passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the St. Joseph Hospital - Main in Lexington after a brief illness. He was born May 10, 1940, to the late Woodson and Nancy Hunt McCarty.
Dewey was a former Bath County Deputy Sheriff and farmer. He attended the Midland First Church of God and enjoyed going to yard sales, visiting family and friends and spending as much time as he could with his only grandchild Sarah McCarty.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena Goodpaster McCarty. Four brothers, Jack McCarty, Herbert McCarty, Charles McCarty and Jimmy McCarty. Three sisters, Norma Stone, Mary Riddle and Christine Bailey.
Survivors include his son Rodney McCarty and wife Robyn of Salt Lick. One granddaughter Sarah McCarty, three sisters, Gloria Garrett, Susie Trent and Minnie McCarty all of Owingsville. Also several nieces and nephews. He will also be fondly remembered by his special friend and companion Mary Grace Williams and his special friend Frosty McKenzie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Pastor Bush Stevenson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Bath Memorial Gardens at Midland.
Visitation is after 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville.
Pallbearers will be Frosty McKenzie, Kyle McKenzie, Paul Reese Sexton, Jamie McCarty, Rogie Coyle, Mickey Staton, Palmer "Jaybird" Crouch and Herbert "Newt" Riddle.
