Edgar Gillespie

Mr. Edgar C. Gillespie, 95, of Owingsville, Kentucky passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 in the Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owingsville.

He was born on May 7, 1921 in Frenchburg, Kentucky, one of twelve children of the late George and Lura Williams Gillespie.

Mr. Gillespie served in the United States Army during World War II and he retired from the Illinois Air National Guard.

Edgar and his family made their home in Chicago for many years.  In 1984, Edgar and Betty retired to Central Illinois.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Kirkpatrick Gillespie, who passed away on June 23, 2014 and six brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Gillespie of Mason City, Illinois and Sandra McCann of Superior, Colorado, three brothers, Charles Gillespie and Bryan Gillespie both of Ohio and William Gillespie of Sharpsburg, two sisters, Lorena Pettit of Sharpsburg and Wrella Reynolds of Morehead and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services and burial with full military honors by the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post No. 126 will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Ginter Cemetery in Menifee County with Rev. Lowell Rice officiating.

The family will gather at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. Thursday for the procession to the cemetery.

Contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
