Elizabeth Gillespie

May 30, 1929 — June 23, 2014

Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Gillespie, 85, passed away on June 23rd, 2014 in Owingsville, Kentucky. She was born May 30, 1929 in Carrollton Missouri to Fannie and Jasper Trusty, she the youngest of five children. When she was three, she was adopted and raised by her parents, Bertha and Frederick Kirkpatrick of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Betty married Edgar Gillespie April 22, 1943 and she and Edgar recently celebrated their 71st Anniversary. Betty was a devoted wife and a loving mother to their two daughters, Sandra and Cheryl. After retiring from Commercial National Bank in Chicago as a bank teller and supervisor, she and Edgar moved to Mason City, Illinois.

She was an accomplished seamstress and loved arts and crafts, and won many prizes at various art shows. She was generous and enjoyed giving to and helping others and had many friends. One of the happiest moments of her life was when she re-connected with her birth brothers and sisters and they maintained a loving relationship throughout their lives.

Betty was kind, gentle and loving to all who entered her home, and will be missed by many. She leaves a legacy of love to her survivors, her husband, Edgar, her daughters, Sandra McCann, Colorado, and Cheryl Gillespie, Illinois, nephew, L. Dean Werges, Missouri, niece, Donna Cordell, Texas, and many brother and sister-in-laws.

Services will be held graveside at the Ginter Cemetary, Friday morning, June 27th at 11:00 a.m. We will gather at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. for the procession to the Ginter Cemetary.
