Gary Edward Purvis, 77, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away on June 8, 2024, at his home after a brief illness. He was born on December 21, 1946, in Marion, Indiana, to the late Edward Millard Purvis and Millie Francis (Purvis).

Gary led a remarkable life filled with diverse interests and experiences. Notably, he served his country with honor in the Army during the Vietnam. He was a proud member of the Owingsville First Church of God as well as a 45 year member and Past Master of Bath Masonic Lodge 55 and a member of the East Central Past Masters Society. 

Gary enjoyed spending time at flea markets, collecting knives, hunting in the great outdoors, working on his farm, tinkering as a mechanic, attending car shows, and relishing trips to Pigeon Forge.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Barber Purvis, his step-mother, Ruth Purvis and two brothers, Kenny Purvis (Mary) and Johnny Purvis. 

He is survived by his wife Eleanor Wells Purvis, two sons Gary Jason Purvis (Tammy) of Owingsville, Adam Jarrod "Peanut" Purvis of Mt. Sterling, one step-son, Dustin Bailey (Kasey) of Owingsville; two step-daughters Leslie Sparks (Brent) of Owingsville, and Brittany Harmon (Jeremy) of Sharpsburg, Kentucky; three brothers, Eddie Purvis (Cindy) of Owingsville, Chris Miller (Kimberly) and Thorp Miller (Gina) both of Indianapolis; five sisters Cheryl Helton Fields of Owingsville, Sarah Vogel (Roger) of Converse, Indiana, Mary Diane Miller (Jason) of Indianapolis, Laura Maze, and Lisa Ann Purvis both of Owingsville, nine grandchildren, Katty Parks of Winchester, Whitley Brooke Purvis of Morehead, Jacob Tyler Purvis, Richard Sparks (Sarah), Ben Bailey, Zeppelin Miller, and Layla Miller all of Owingsville, Lacey Sparks-Anderson (Jacob) of Frenchburg, and Addie Faye Harmon of Sharpsburg, and six great-grandchildren, McKenzie Townsend, Madison Townsend, Morgan Parks, Hudson Sparks, Cayson Sparks, and Braylee Sparks.   

A visitation to honor Gary's life will take place on Thursday, June 13th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the chapel of the Michael R Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Masonic Services at 7:00 PM by Bath Masonic Lodge #55.  The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday June 14th with Rev. Lowell Rice and Pas. Ulysses Walton officiating. Burial and full military rites will be performed at the Owingsville Cemetery by American Legion Post 126. 

Contributions are suggested to the Owingsville First Church of God. 

Pallbearers include Earl Willis, Farley Jason Purvis, Claude Jervis, Jacob Anderson, Dustin Bailey, Jeremy Harmon, Clifton Sparks, and Brent Evans. 

Honorary Pallbearers include Bath Masonic Lodge 55, Donnie Lucas, and Richard Sparks. 

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville will be handling all arrangements for Gary Edward Purvis.
