James Orville Whitton, 92, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Baptist Health in Lexington.
Born February 22, 1926, in Bath County, he was the son of the late Holden Lee Whitton and Mary Ethel Royse Whitton.
James was retired from Whirlpool Manufacturing after 23 years in the maintenance department. He enjoyed farming, making canes, and being in nature. He also enjoyed helping people, tinkering, spending time with family. He was a member of the Slate Valley Christian Church and for many years attended the Preston First Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Christine Manley Whitton, a daughter Teresa Long and her husband Jerry of Mt. Sterling, two brothers, Earl Whitton of Shepherdsville, Kentucky and J.R. Whitton and wife Katy of Owingsville, a sister, Lorena Staton of Owingsville: one grandson Jerrod Jameson Long of Louisville.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ben Staton and his sister-in-law, Wilma Jean Whitton.
Services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 28,2018 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Rev. Terry Frerichs and Rev. Lowell Rice officiating. Burial will follow at the Slate Valley Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
Pallbearers include Johnny Whitton, Tony Whitton, Gary Staton, Woodson Lee Staton, Omer D. Heath, and Jedediah Staton.
Honorary Pallbearers include Mayme Spencer, David Jones, Don Williams, George “Funny” Hawkins, E.H. Snedegar, Glen Thomas, Jim Miracle, Jewett Blevins, and Charles Hart.
