John Hutchinson

June 2, 1939 — September 16, 2016

Mr. John J. Hutchinson, Age 77 of Owingsville, passed away Friday afternoon, September 16, 2016 at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer..

He was born in Hazard, Kentucky on June 2, 1939 to the late Lillie Shrout Hutchinson.

John was a lifelong member of the Owingsville First Christian Church where he had served as Chairman of the Board and was a long-serving Elder of the church.. He was a member of Bath Lodge No. 55,  and the Order of the Eastern Star. He served four years in the United States Army and was a Kentucky Colonel. John's hobbies included traveling, reading and cooking. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan, a lifelong Democrat and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his Grandson, John Robert.

John retired from LG & E- KU having worked as a right of way agent and had also worked for the Kentucky Department of Transportation in Flemingsburg for over 19 years.

Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Walton and a nephew Leslie Walton.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Goldy Hutchinson, one daughter, Julia (Taylor) Staton of West Chester, Ohio. One grandson, John Robert Staton. One brother, Dr. Robert Hutchinson of Sarasota, Florida. One nephew, Todd (Robin) Walton of Flemingsburg, Kentucky. Also, several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Owingsville First Christian Church, 11 East Main Street, Owingsville, Kentucky 40360, with Rev. Sean Bailey, Rev. Chuck Lees and Rev. Lowell Rice officiating.

Burial with full military honors by the Montgomery American Legion Post No. 22 will follow in the Owingsville Cemetery.

Visitation at the Owingsville First Christian Church will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Masonic services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the church, by Bath Lodge No. 55.

Pall Bearers will be David Chaney, Hugh Byron, Elwick Carpenter, Forrest McKenzie, Brandon Grillon and Tim Goldy.

Contributions are suggested to the Owingsville First Christian Church Building Fund, 11 West Main Street, Owingsville, Kentucky 40360.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville.
