Jonah Solomon Tackett, of Dade City, Florida, passed away on July 12, 2018 in Hagerstown, Maryland while surrounded by his family. Jonah was born on November 24, 1985; being thirty-two years old.
Jonah was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Juanita Mullins, his paternal grandfather, James F. Tackett, and his cousin, Dennis Brandon Holbrook.
Jonah is survived by his loving parents James Harvey Tackett and Jan (Mullins) Tackett of Owingsville, Kentucky; two brothers: Jordan (Misty) Tackett of Jenkins, Kentucky, and Jared (Mary) Tackett of Farmville, Virginia; one grandmother: Juanita Jean (Webb) Tackett of Jenkins, Kentucky; one grandfather: Julius Mullins of Melvin, Kentucky; three nephews: Koby, Reece, and Cash; seven cousins: Chris Mullins, Julius Ryan Mullins, Jonathan Mullins, Justin (Logan) Holbrook, Kory (Amanda) Caudill, Jacob Addison, and Trevor Addison; along with a host of aunts, uncles, other family, and many friends.
Jonah grew up in Jenkins, Kentucky and was baptized in the Christian faith. As a standout athlete at Jenkins High School he excelled in basketball, football, and track & field and was known for his fierce competitive spirit, sense of humor, and willingness to help others. Many knew him as someone who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. In his passing, Jonah’s light continues to shine through others as an organ donor. Working as a truck driver for Tackett Holdings, LLC Jonah found a passion for traveling across the country. He often texted photos and would enjoy a spontaneous FaceTime session to share the country’s beauty with his family and friends.
Jonah had a special love for animals, especially dogs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canine Companions for Independence, which offers expertly-trained assistance dogs and a lifetime of support to people with disabilities. Celebration of Life Services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Burdine Freewill Baptist Church in Burdine, Kentucky with Brother David Lickliter officiating.
Burial will follow in the Leitha R. Tackett Cemetery in Jenkins, Kentucky.
Visitation at the Owingsville Christian Church in Owingsville, Kentucky is after 4:00 P.M. Thursday, July 19th and at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church after 5:00 P.M. Friday, July 20th.
