Katherine Orme Rogers, 89 of Treadway Dr. passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY. She was a retired teacher and upon her graduation from Owingsville High School in Owingsville, KY she attended Kentucky Wesleyan, Indiana University, and finally Morehead State University. It was at MSU that she graduated and obtained her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and her masters degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in Library Science. She retired in 1988 after having taught school for 32 years.
Mrs. Rogers served two terms as president of the Woman's Club, is a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's sorority, was a past president of the Bath County Education Association, was a member of the Owingsville Christian Church of which she provided music in Sunday School and has been chairman of the worship committee, has been very active in 4-H work and was a Kentucky Colonel.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, watching UK basketball and along with her sister, catered wedding receptions for six years. She played the part of Mrs. Santa in the annual Christmas parade in Owingsville for many years.
Born in Bath County, Kentucky on February 22, 1924, she was the daughter of Henry L. Orme and Lottie Crouch Orme. She is survived by a daughter, Katherine Carrell Whitaker of Butlerville, Indiana; a son, Thomas Foster (Lorri) Rogers IV of Lexington, Kentucky; a sister, Sara Jane Orme of Owingsville; three grandchildren, Robert L. Whitaker II of Greensburg, Indiana, Thomas Foster Rogers V and Laura Katherine Rogers, both of Lexington; a great granddaughter, Avery Nicole Whitaker of Greensburg, Indiana; six nieces; one nephew and several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and William Orme and a great granddaughter, Haley Marie Whitaker.
