Myrtle Griggs

Mrs. Myrtle Jean Smith Griggs, 83, of Olympia, passed away Thursday morning, April 20, 2017 in the Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Owingsville.

She was born on May 30, 1933 in Olympia, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Luther and Rose Catherine Wade Smith.

Mrs. Griggs was a retired cook for the Bath County School System, having worked at the high school.

She was a member of the Hedricks Community Church and she enjoyed quilting, sewing, camping, visiting the nursing home and going to the Senior Citizens Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rollie “George” Griggs, Jr., who passed away on February 18, 1988, one brother, Willis Smith and one sister, Ruby Sizemore.

Survivors include one son, Carl (Linda) Griggs of Olympia, one daughter, Diane (Ronnie) Bailey of Owingsville, two brothers, Wallace (Della) Smith and Jimmy (Mary) Smith all of Owingsville, three grandchildren, Trent Bailey, Christy Bailey (Robbie) Coyle and Derek Griggs, one great-grandson, Owen Coyle and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 22, 2017 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Pastor Randall Jackson and Rev. Terry Rickenback officiating.

Burial will follow in the Stull Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Wilson, Roy Bowers, Jerry Humphreys, Tim Lawson, Billy Chapman, Mike Ginter, Terry Harvey and Dave Arnett.

Visitation is after 6:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
