Mrs. Roma Lee Armitage, age 88, went to her peaceful home with her Savior on Monday, December 19, 2016.
She was born to parents Manie Lee Moore Highley and Benjamin Wiley (“Buck”) Highley in Mingo County, West Virginia on September 5, 1928.
Mrs. Armitage was a retired medical office receptionist and she attended Mud Lick Church of God and Bessemer Church of God.
She graduated from Frenchburg Presbyterian High School. She then married her lifelong love, Woodford Armitage on June 21, 1946. They shared 60 years together before his death in 2006.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Buck and Manie, one daughter, Beverly Sharon Armitage, three sisters, Bethel Jane Greene, Mary Frances Patrick, and Naomi JoAnne Ramey, one brother, Benjamin Wiley Highley, Jr., and one grandchild, Paige Stagner IV.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa (Leonard) McNabb of Valrico, Florida and Rita Jayne (Jim McLane) Armitage of Birmingham, Alabama, one son, Woodford LaRoy Armitage of Lexington, two sisters, Judy Carol (Harold) Hunt of Olympia and Lillian Eleanor Barnes of Lexington and two brothers, Clell Sidney (Kaye) Highley of Owingsville, and Franklin Delano Highley of Salt Lick.
Other survivors include two granddaughters, Laura (Albert) Zakarian of Lithia, Florida, and Lorna (Marc) Ballard of Valrico, Florida, six great-grandchildren, Ryan Zakarian, Jacob Zakarian, Connor Yi, Lindsay Moore, Madelyn Moore, and Connor Ballard as well as 50+ nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, other relatives and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the Mud Lick Church of God with Josh Holland officiating.
Burial will follow in the Highley Family Cemetery in Menifee County.
Visitation is from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville and the body will lie in state one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Greene, Kevin Greene, Michael Hunt, Rick Parks, Mark Holland, and Shannon Highley. Honorary pallbearers will be Hal Douglas Parks, Lindsey Harold Hunt, and Kerry Lannis Byrd.
The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville is caring for all arrangements.
