Mrs. Vada Louise Goodpaster, 86, of Owingsville, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning October 27, 2018 at the Ridgeway Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was born March 16, 1932 in Bath County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late James Bailey and Anna Henderson Bailey.
Vada was a beloved mother and grandmother who dearly loved spending time with her family and friends. She was always smiles and in good humor and cherished giving and receiving hugs. Going to Church was very important to Vada and she vauled not only being a member of the Owingsville First Church of God choir, but she also loved cooking with the W.C.G. She deeply admired her morning walks and was a passionate U.K. Basketball fan. She worked at Bluegrass Industries in Carlisle, Kentucky, and retired as a thoroughbred member. Vada and her husband Ray also owned and operated the Farm Store in Owingsville where they both enjoyed serving the community.
She was preceded in death by her son Larry Hughes; her husband Ray Goodpaster, Three great grandchildren, Bailey Matthews, Michaela Matthews and Thomas Kade Matthews; two sons in law, Jimmy Otis and Chris Warner; three sisters, Viola Whaley, Della B. Bailey and Etheleen Brooks Gray; two brothers, Herbert Turner and Verl (Jumbo) Bailey and a special friend and caregiver Flossie Copher.
Survivors include three children, Terry (Pam) Hughes, of Owingsville, Kathy (Rick) Rogers, of Morehead Ky. and Janet (James) Butler, of Lexington Ky. Five grandchildren, Steven Hughes, Shanna (Brian) Matthews, Chris (Terri Ellen) Warner, Desarae Hughes and Adam (Loretta) Warner. Seven great grandchildren, Margaret Hughes, Devin Matthews, Isabella Hughes, Carolina Warner, Olivia Warner, James Warner and Aria Warner. Seven step children, Donna Hughes, Debbie Goodpaster, David Goodpaster, Teresa Goodpaster, Gary Goodpaster, Terry Goodpaster and Sharon Goodpaster. Two sisters in law, Wanda Hedrick and Lucille Bailey. One brother in law, Gerald Hughes and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Owingsville First Church of God with Rev. Lowell Rice officiating and Chris Warner speaking.
Burial will follow in the Longview Cemetery in Bethel.
Visitation at the Owingsville First Church of God is from 5 - 8 P.M. Monday, October 29, 2018.
Pallbearers include, Chris Warner, Adam Warner, Brian Matthews, Steve Hughes, Rick Rogers and Jim (James) Butler.
Honorary Pallbearers are Chuck Kessler, Scott Garrett, Charles Whittingon, Norman Crouch, Gary Henderson and Mitchell Miller.
The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville, Ky. is handling all the arrangements.
